The Gold Ring Jim Fisk, Jay Gould, and Black Friday, 1869., Ackerman, Kenneth D.
1 Ackerman, Kenneth D. The Gold Ring Jim Fisk, Jay Gould, and Black Friday, 1869.
New York Dodd, Mead & Co 1988 0396090656 / 9780396090656 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good- dust jacket
DJ has 1 inch closed tear on back at bottom and light soil, remainder mark bottom page edges. ; A bright, solid book, dustjacket in Mylar, unclipped. ; B&W Illustrations; 9.30 X 6.20 X 1.30 inches; 340 pages; "In The Gold Ring, Capitol Hill veteran Kenneth D. Ackerman tells the story of two dazzling con men who rose to the top of the Erie Railway Company before fixing their ambitions on a scam so great it would make them two of the richest men in America—and cement their reputation as two of the most corrupt. They were Jay Gould, the ruthless self-promoter who came to be recognized as the most hated, if brilliant, man of his generation, and his partner, the extravagant showman Jim Fisk, whose insatiable indulgences finally led to his demise. Featuring a cast of supporting characters that includes Boss Tweed, Albert Cardozo, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and Ulysses S. Grant, The Gold Ring evokes an age of scandal and depravity in the world of high finance that makes today's climate of corporate excess and deception seem positively tame by comparison. Featuring numerous historic photographs, this is a compelling and fiercely entertaining insight into Wall Street's early years."

Security Analysis The Classic 1934 Edition, Graham, Benjamin & David Dodd
6 Graham, Benjamin & David Dodd Security Analysis The Classic 1934 Edition
New York McGraw-Hill Education 1996 0070244960 / 9780070244962 Facsimile Hardcover Very Good+ with no dust jacket
Brown boards show light shelf wear.; A bright, solid book. Missing dust jacket ; 9.20 X 6.10 X 2.40 inches; 725 pages; "this unusual, carefully crafted reproduction of Benjamin Graham and David Dodd's immortal Security Analysis gives you the chance to read and treasure a true classic--the book that gave birth to value investing.Continuously in print through five editions, for more than 60 years, and through nearly a million copies, the primer for many of America's most illustrious investors--and the wellspring of Graham and Dodd's Wall Street Immortality--Security Analysis is indisputably the most influential book on investing ever written. Still the investors' bible, it's as frequently consulted today as it was when it first appeared in 1934.Of course, over the years and over five editions, Security Analysis changed. Its language was modernized. New material was added. Metaphors and examples were brought up to date. In the light of changing times, these alterations were necessary and appropriate. But what of the original book? The very durability of this work arouses our curiosity. And what we discover when we return to the original is very simply a classic, a work whose uncompromising worth has not paled since it first saw the light of day in 1934.The original words of Benjamin Graham and David Dodd--put to paper not long after the disastrous Stock Market Crash of 1929--still have the mesmerizing qualities of rigorous honesty and diligent scrutiny, the same riveting power of disciplined thought and determined logic that gave the work its first distinction and began its illustrious career. But this reproduction is far more than a historical curiosity, an interesting object, and a delightful read. It presents the original Graham/Dodd method of investing--told in their own words as they first described it in the 1930s.What exactly is this method that has drawn such longterm devotion in the notably fickle reaches of Wall Street?Graham and Dodd were Wall Street's first bargain shoppers. In this book they first explain their methods for locating bonds and stocks "which are selling well below the levels apparently justified by a careful analysis of the relevant facts." In this book, they tell you precisely how to find these undervalued securities and analyze those "relevant facts."In their preface to this book, Graham and Dodd write that they hope their work "will stand the test of the ever enigmatic future." There is no doubt that it has."

New Jersey World Scientific Publishing Company 2007 981270860X / 9789812708601 First Edition Hardcover Fine with No dust jacket as issued
Only slight wear ; Bright, solid book, text unmarked ; World Scientific Series on Energy and Resource Economics Vol. 5; 8.98 X 6.06 X 0.87 inches; 220 pages; This book offers the first set of quantitative analyses of the results of deregulation of the gas wellhead process coupled with partial deregulation of pipeline transportation and product storage. This complex process which involves taking pipelines out of the field markets as product purchasers, and creating spot gas and pipeline space markets has changed the nature and extent of services for gas at the burner tip, and the level as well as volatility of prices for these services. Using econometric tools of analysis, the authors concentrating on these changes uncover surprising findings in contrast to what regulatory reform was supposed to accomplish.Contents: Quantitative Study Number One: Regional Markets for Gas Transmission Services (V Marmer & D Shapiro); Quantitative Study Number Two: Competition Among the Few in the Natural Gas Pipelines Industry After Partial Deregulation (N Moshkin); Quantitative Study Number Three: The Basis Differentials as a Measure of Performance in Partially Deregulated Pipeline Transportation Markets (P W MacAvoy); Quantitative Study Number Four: Profitability of Natural Gas Storage Resulting from Federal Deregulation (N Moshkin); Quantitative Study Number Five: Revising the Model of Gas Wellhead Prices and Quantities for Deregulation

Front hinge started, tape applied to strengthen it. ; A bright, solid book, dustjacket in Mylar, unclipped.; Colour plates; 9.10 X 6.10 X 1.20 inches; 243 pages; "In 1960, Forbes Wilson, in charge of a worldwide mineral exploration program for Freeport Minerals Company, masterminded an overland expedition into the rugged and remote peaks of Irian Jaya (then Western New Guinea), Indonensia. His objective was to locate a unique geologic feature - a huge black knob of ore known as e Ertsberg, first sighted by a small group of Dutch climbers some 24 years before. In touch with the outside world only be primitive jungle radio and the occasional parachutes delivery of supplies, Forbes Wilson and his party trekked for 17 days across almost inaccessible terrain to an altitude of 12,000 feet, a journey that took the gifted geologist to the limits of human endurance and revealed to him an unforgettable country whose extraordinary landscape, exotic vegetation and simple tribal society he records here in vivid detail. The results of his expedition were exhilarating: measured and sampled, the Ertsberg proved to be the world's largest above-ground outcrop of copper ore.Wilson's vision and determination brought Freeport back to Indonesia in 1967. A 63-mile access road was carved through the middle of two mountains; the world's largest tramways were built and longest slurry pipeline assembled-in what the trade press called 'Freeport's Mission Impossible' the company succeeded, in five years, in bringing a sophisticated mining operation to the totally isolated Indonesian highlands, and in drawing together the civilizations of the Far East and West."
